Explorers

Explorers is a hands-on, in-depth program for youth age 14 – 20 who are interested in a career in law enforcement.

What is the Explorer Program?

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program is career-oriented, giving area youth and young adults an opportunity to explore a career in law enforcement by working alongside deputies and other members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Who Can Be an Explorer?

Youth ranging from age 14, and have completed the 8th grade, up through age 20. Explorers must have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions. They must pass a minimum background check. And, Explorers must maintain passing grades, have a good attendance record, and no disciplinary problems from school or work.

What do Explorers do?

Members can learn first-hand how Law Enforcement Officers do their jobs. Deputies, Correction Officers, and Detectives with special skills are invited to meetings to instruct Explorers about different aspects of law enforcement. Training includes both classroom and hands-on participation. They participate in competitions with Explorers from all over the state.

Meetings are held monthly at the Sheriff’s Office – 1776 State Route 521, Delaware, OH 43015.
