The Sheriff’s Office recognizes the importance to educate and empower women in Delaware County to reduce their risk of victimization. Sheriff’s Office staff have created an interactive, hands-on self-defense class specific to women. The class is 4-hours long, and participants will learn, engage, and role-play. Trained deputies lead the class, with education and moral support from our Victim Advocates. These free classes are offered six times annually – see schedule below.

The Women’s Self-Defense program will be offered six times in 2026 – see dates below. Next to each class date is the registration date. The registration form will become available on that day beginning at 8AM on this webpage. Class size is limited to 15 participants to keep the class manageable and meaningful.
JAN. 17 – Register Jan. 2
MARCH 14 – Register Feb. 20
MAY 9 – Register April 17
JULY 11 – Register June 19
SEPT. 12 – Register Aug. 21
NOV. 14 – Register Oct. 23
Additional Details:
- Class is held at the Sheriff’s Office/Byxbe Campus on SR 521
- Class size is limited, and fills up quickly.
- Must be 15 years or older (parental permission required for teens).
- Gym clothes/sweats and tennis shoes are encouraged.
- Applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail with further details.
