Welcome to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office Peace Officer Training Academy. Our academy is dedicated to preparing the next generation of law enforcement professionals with rigorous training, hands-on experience, and a commitment to public service. As the demand for highly qualified peace officers continues to rise, we strive to provide comprehensive education and real-world skills that empower our cadets to serve Delaware County and beyond with integrity and excellence.
Our academy follows the OPOTA curriculum of 40 hours a week. Since launching our training academy in 2023, we have expanded the state-mandated training from 740 to 1100 hours. This includes enhanced training in Taser and rifle use, building searches, and active shooter response. As a result of these enhancements plus a consistently high pass rate, our Academy has been awarded with the Ohio Attorney General’s STAR designation.
The extended curriculum aims to better prepare cadets for diverse field scenarios; enhancing public safety. This equips our cadets with necessary skills through multi-generational teaching and a better cadet-to-instructor ratio than other academies.
The state of Ohio requires two final tests before a cadet can graduate basic academy training; a physical fitness test and a written test. The DCSO police academy carries an impressive 100% pass rate on the P.T. test and a 92% cumulative average written test score. For more information on physical fitness standards, click here.
